How do I apply to the Florida Public Safety Institute if I am interested in Firefighting?

Body

The Florida Public Safety Institute offers training to become a firefighter, among other public safety careers. The following will help guide new students through the admissions process.

Apply for Admission

  • Apply for admission to TSC using our online application
  • After submitting the application, you will receive a confirmation email to your personal email address that you used to create your application.  This email will contain your TSC student identification number, TSC Outlook email address and password. Keep this page for your records as you will need this information to log in to Workday (TSC's student portal).
  • Submit your residency documents (e.g., driver’s license, vehicle registration, voter’s registration card) online. All documents must reflect an issue date of at least one year prior to the first day of class for the semester you plan to attend.

Take the TABE Test

All enrolled students who have not successfully completed college English and Math must take and pass the TABE Full Battery Level (A) with a score of 10th grade level or higher in all categories. Contact the TSC Testing Center  (850) 201-8282 to schedule an appointment to take the TABE test.  More info can be found on our website.

Submit a Recruit Application

  • Download a Recruit Application and complete the enclosed checklist. Be sure to include all listed needed documents or your application will not be processed. The seven year driving history can be picked up at the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles.
  • Return the completed application to:

Florida Public Safety Institute

After Submitting an Application

  • Do not obtain a medical examination until you have been accepted into the academy and attended the mandatory Fire Academy Orientation.
  • Once the application has been completed and turned in, you will be contacted and advised of the Orientation time and date.
  • Conditional acceptance will be determined on the date of the individual interview. The interviews will be conducted approximately 30 days prior to the beginning of class.
  • If you have not already started, begin an exercise program that builds stamina and flexibility and work to improve areas you may be weak in for your upcoming academy training.

For more information, contact the Fire Academy Coordinator at (850) 558-4366.
