Where is My Canvas Course?

If you're having trouble finding your course in Canvas, here are the most common reasons and how to fix them:

1. Course Is Unpublished

Courses must be published by the instructor before students can access them.
To check if your course is published:

  • Click the Courses icon in the left-hand navigation menu.
  • Select All Courses.
  • If the course is unpublished, you'll see an "unpublished" status next to its name.

If your course is unpublished, contact your instructor for more information.


2. Check the Course Start Date

Students are enrolled in Canvas courses on the first day of the session.
For Express Sessions, enrollment begins on the first day of that specific session.

To confirm your course start date:

  • Log in to Workday and review your course schedule.

3. Course Is Hidden from Your Dashboard

If you're using the "favorites" view, newly added courses may not appear automatically. You can fix this in two ways:

Option A: Keep Favorites View

  • Click the Courses icon in the left-hand menu.
  • Select All Courses.
  • Find the missing course and click the gray star next to it to turn it gold.
  • The course will now appear on your Dashboard.

Option B: Return to Default View

  • Click the Courses icon and go to All Courses.
  • Click each gold star to turn it gray.
  • Once all stars are gray, your Dashboard will show all available courses by default.
